 Opus 1946 - 2012

Canadian artist with Austrian roots Ernestine Tahedl (1940), daughter of painter and member of the Vienna Secession Heinrich Tahedl, emigrated in 1963 to Canada, where she lives and works today. She soon acquired popularity as an outstanding painter on glass, and in 1967 the   Montreal Expo she artistically designed and painted four glass walls.  As well as painting on glass, she has been vigorously involved in landscape painting, on canvases of remarkable sizes. Inspired by the vivacity of Canadian and Austrian landscapes, she developed, at a remove from realistic topography and literal description, a refined and sumptuous shading of colours and created numerous landscape compositions with extremely subtle moods.  At the exhibition in the Modern Gallery she will introduce herself with a representative selection of paintings from her OPUS created between 1946 and 2012.

In the exhibition Ernestine Tahedl – Opus, the Modern Gallery, in association with Viennese collector Dr Alfred Brogyany, participating in this year’s European tour of her work in painting.
