Jagoda Popović – The Four Seasons / A Tribute to Vivaldi
June, 16 – July 5, 2015
On June 16, at 7 p.m., the Josip Račić Studio of the Modern Gallery will host the opening of the exhibition The Four Seasons – A Tribute to Vivaldi by the painter Jagoda Popović. This is a very distinctive exhibition at which this artist, who took her BFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Šime Perić in the seventies, is for the first time presenting her work to the Zagreb arts world in a solo show. The artist found the inspiration for her twenty acrylics on canvas and assemblages in the music of Baroque violin virtuoso Antonio Vivaldi; her “Four Seasons” is a painterly correlative to the emotions aroused in her by this passionate music in praise of nature. For a full forty years Jagoda Popović has lived quite voluntarily in the shadow of her artist husband, Dimitrije Popović, placing her role as wife and mother before her own career. Now she has resolved to put an end to this self-effacement and to give in her golden years full rein to her own artistic ardours.
