Boris Popović, Triptych
On Thursday, September 28, an exhibition of photographs by Boris Popović will open in the Josip Račić Studio of the Modern Gallery. The author will appear before the Zagreb public with works taken between 1997 and 2015. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue with a preface by Banka Knežević, and will stay on view until October 12, 2017.
Triptych is, not by chance, both the name of the exhibition and the idea behind the set-up. As against the classical painting, structured according to a clear hierarchy of motifs, a triptych is most often a longer narrative form in which the central theme is in some more or less anticipated context, which nevertheless needs looking at longer. Most of the photographs on show, after a good long time of observation, reveal what we actually see. Or do not reveal. Waiting for the look in which the covert will be seen.
