Modern Gallery Art Education Programme for April

To go with the exhibition All Our Animals, which because of the great interest it has aroused is being extended until May 7, 2017, in April and during the spring holidays the Modern Gallery has prepared a series of art education workshops.
The number of participants in a given workshop is restricted to some 15, and so please give us advance notice of your intention to attend at email: modernagalerija.edukacija@gmail.com or on telephone 091 768 7286 (Iris Poljan, art workshop leader) or 01 60 410 55 (MG ticket office). A charge of 20 kuna is made for attendance at a workshop, but children under 7 are admitted free of charge.

Modern Gallery Art Education Programme for April

1. Painting workshop, Animal Kingdom
Saturday, April 8, 11 30 am to 1 pm
Join us at an art workshop at which we shall discover various animal species exhibited in the set up of the exhibition and creatively devise the appearance of the animal kingdom. With group work we shall express ourselves in a large format, in order to create an interesting and dynamic composition, exploring the opportunities provided by painting.
Technique: tempera

2. Recomposition Workshop, Invented Species
Sunday, April 9, 11 30 am to 1 pm
An art workshop at which inspired by the work of Nives Kavurić-Kurtović we shall play with the figures of animals and attempt to create a new, imagined species. We shall find out how to express ourselves with the recomposition of figures and forms.
Technique: collage

Spring Holidays Workshops

Easter egg workshop, Animal Motifs
Wednesday, April 12, 5 pm to 6 30 pm
Easter is approaching and we invite anyone interested to the Modern Gallery for the creative decoration of Easter eggs. Prompted by the current exhibition All Our Animals, we shall imagine animal motifs, draw them and with the decoupage technique decorate your eggs.

4. Drawing workshop, Animals in Motion – animation sketchbook
Tuesday, April 18, 5 pm to 6 30 pm
At this drawing workshop, inspired by the work of Jadranka Fatur and Miljenko Stančić, we shall explore the possibilities of simple animation – how with the help of stop motion animation with simple pictures to create animal movements. Choose an animal and set it in motion using a sketchbook and drawing.
Technique: pencil

5. Painting workshop, Chameleon
Wednesday, April 19, 11 30 am to 1 pm
Join us at the painting workshop at which, prompted by this uncommon animal in the permanent display of the gallery, we shall learn about painting textures in painting. Visually inspired by the painting of the 20th and 21st centuries we shall explore the opportunities for creating painting textures and with mixed media devise the appearance of this interesting creature.

6. Illustration workshop, City Animals
Thursday, April 20, 11 30 am to 1 pm
Where can we find animals in the city?
Have you ever noticed the depictions of animals of street artists that enliven the walls of Zagreb buildings? Prompted by the interesting ways in which street artists express themselves and depictions of animals we shall learn about street art. We will look at depictions of urban animals by modern artists in the exhibition in order to compare differences in styles. With creative expression in lines and surfaces, we shall create illustrations of the animals we would like to see on the walls of a street museum.
Technique: Indian ink

7. Sculpture workshop, Line Sculpture
Saturday, April 22, 11 30 am – 1 pm
Join us at a sculpture workshop at which we shall discover the animal motifs of Branko Ružić. We shall study his manner of expression in wood and explore how to approach his motifs in various sculptural ways using just lines.

8. Art workshop, The Bat
Sunday, April 23, 11 30 am to 1 pm
At this workshop we shall learn about silhouettes and explore flat depictions of animals in the set up of the exhibition. Our motif is the bat, and we shall learn how to simplify it visually and with the help of surfaces create interesting pieces of art.
