Opening of the Šohaj exhibition (donations/collections)
The autumn exhibition season of the Modern Gallery 2017 was started on October 3 with the exhibition of the painting oeuvre of Slavko Šohaj. The many invitees were welcomed by Biserka Rauter Plančić, director of the Modern Gallery, who in her speech thanked the sponsors of the exhibition and associates and went on: “For all the gifts of Šohaj we would like to express our huge thanks to Mrs Heda Dubaj Šohaj – who alas because of illness was not able to share with us the joy of tonight’s opening. We are grateful to her not only for her generosity, but also for the care with which she has looked after and preserved the Šohaj painting bequest for the national museum and accordingly for the Croatian artistic heritage and culture in general… Our happiness is all the greater that the Šohaj exhibition is subtitled – similarly to that of Dalibor Parac from the spring of this year – donation to the Modern Gallery, the holdings of the artworks of the Modern Gallery thus being enriched with a very good number of Šohaj’s brilliant still lifes, striking landscapes and many works on paper that with their high level of artistry have elevated the importance and mission of the Gallery as national museum of fine arts of modern Croatia.”
Through a hundred and more oil paintings, studies and drawings, the “quiet yet strong painter” of the Croatian and European post-modern can be viewed in the Modern Gallery until November 5. The exhibition has been created and the set-up designed by distinguished art historian and critic Igor Zidić.
