The Miroslav Kraljević Retrospective Exhibition opened in Split Gallery of Fine Arts

On Monday, July 14, the day on which the Split Summer Festival started, the Miroslav Kraljević Retrospective was opened to art-loving Split in the Gallery of Fine Arts.  Kraljević was one of the greatest painters of the early 20th century, without whose fascinating oeuvre there would be a huge gap in Croatian painting, the Croatian fine arts being much narrower, as Zvonko Maković, leader of the team of authors, remarked.  The exhibition, which includes eighty of Kraljević’s works, including drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures, was opened by Mayor of Split Ivo Baldasar.  Just before the opening, Biserka Rauter Plančić, director of the Modern Gallery, welcomed the guests and said that this was an exceptional exhibition that, after Požega, had been put on in Zagreb, where it had been seen by thirty thousand visitors, and, after Split, by the end of this year, would be presented in Osijek and Dubrovnik.  Biserka Rauter Plančić also mentioned the success of the twenty portraits by Kraljević exhibited this spring in Venice’s Ca’Pesaro, together with works by Picasso, Rodin, Chagall Warhol.  Božo Majstorović, curator of the Split exhibition, confessed that for him the preparation of the Kraljević exhibition was the achievement of a professional dream.

The exhibition in the Gallery of Fine Arts in Split will be on view until September 14.
