Art workshops in the Modern Gallery in March 2016

Join us in art workshops in the Modern Gallery. We have found our inspiration in the permanent display and also in the monographic exhibition of the versatile artist Dražen Trogrlić (March 15 – April 17, 2016).

  1. Street Art in the Modern Gallery Workshop

Saturday, March 5, from 11.30 am to 1 pm

Just imagine that the painter Josip Račić had done his well-known portraits in the form of street art. Where would he have done them?  What would they be like, what kind of message would they convey to the passers-by?  Think up a story for the portraits and interpret them with your own creation in the art workshop.

Technique: mixed media – hammer paper and tempera

Age group: 7 to 16

  1. A Drawing from a Line Workshop

Sunday, March 6, from 11.30 am to 1 pm

Join us at a drawing workshop at which we are going to test out our attentiveness and sense of discipline to produce our works using just a single uninterrupted line for each drawing. Sounds simple, right?  What it is really like, we’ll find out together in the workshop.

Technique: coloured marker pens

Age group: 7 to 16

  1. Paper Landscape Workshop

Friday, March 11, from 4.30 pm to 6 pm

Taking our cues from the painted landscapes of Miroslav Kraljević, Ljubo Babić and Ivo Dulčić, we will create our own versions of the landscapes in mixed sculptural media.  We’ll make our own landscapes in collages made with cardboard and paper.

Technique: mixed media – cardboard, paper.

Age group: 4 to 10

  1. Frottage Workshop

Saturday, March 12, from 11.30 am to 1 pm

To make the workshop as interesting as possible, bring along with you some everyday items, like coins, old keys, jetons and counters, plastic forks and so on. Any flat objects like this will help us to explore the charms of the frottage technique, aiming at creative results.

Technique: pastels

Age group: 4 to 10

  1. Paintings from Uncommon Materials Workshop

Sunday, March 13, from 11.30 am to 1 pm

At this art workshop we are going to see that we can make pictures with various materials, not just with paints from tubes or pots.  Some artists in the Modern Gallery have used sand, or plastic bags or pebbles to make pictures with. We will attempt to create some interesting artistic results with apparently unpromising materials.

Technique: mixed media

Age group: 6 to 12

6,. Daily Accounts Workshop

Friday, March 18, from 4.30 pm to 6 pm

We are going to explore Dražen Trogrlić’s Daily Accounts, from his interesting exhibition.  Prompted by his idiom, we’ll create our own inventive records, drawing emotions, experiences and ideas.

Technique: pastels and coloured pencils

Age group: 6 to 12

  1. Adventure in Colours Workshop

Tuesday, March 22 from 4.30 pm to 6 pm

At this workshop, inspired by the Forest Paths series of Trogrlić, we are going to create our own vision of moving or journeying, uncovering new things and impressions, making use of only (brush)strokes and colour.

Technique: mixed media – watercolour and coloured pencils

Age group: 6 to 12

  1. Dialogues Workshop

Wednesday, March 23, from 4.30 pm to 6 pm

A sculpture workshop at which we are going to create (inspired by the sculptural work of Dražen Trogrlić) our own sculptural dialogues in clay.  Exactly how to show a dialogue in the medium of sculpture, we’ll discover at the workshop.

Technique: clay

Age group: 6 to 12 years

  1. Universe of Ideas Workshop

Thursday, March 24, from 4.30 pm to 6 pm

Come and join us at this sculpture workshop inspired by the exhibition of Dražen Trogrlić.  By combining varied sculptural materials, with our combined energies, we will create our own imaginative vision of the universe.

Technique: mixed media – wire, cardboard, clay…

Age group: 4 to 12
