Underway in the Modern Gallery are the final preparations before the opening of the exhibition “On the Shores of the Adriatic Sea” on Thursday, November 16, 2017, in the Modern Gallery.
About the exhibition:
An international exhibition project that, based on the concept of the distinguished Italian art historian and theorist Dr Giandomenico Romanelli and of Biserka Rauter Plančić, director of the Modern Gallery, which will be on display in the Modern Gallery in Zagreb in 2017, tells of the importance of Italian-Croatian artistic links for the development of the open-air movement and Croatian landscape painting in general. On that occasion as well as works of the leading Italian painters from the fin-de-siècle (G.Fattori ,G. Ciardi, P. Fragiacomo ,G. Cadorin ,T. Signorini and ohers) from distinguished museum-gallery institutions in Italy some of the masterpieces of Croatian artists have also been chosen (from F. Quiquerez, N. Mašić, V. Bukovac and M. C. Medović to M. Cl. Crnčić, E. Vidović, G. Jurkićand others), mostly from the holdings of the Modern Gallery, as well as a few works from other museum-gallery institutions in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. These are artists who during their journeys in Italy met some of the leaders of the Macchiaioli School and worked under their influence. The objective of this exhibition, which will also be presented in Italy in 2018, put on in association with the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb, is to launch the modern Croatian visual heritage on the European exhibition scene and to acquaint the international public with the Croatian section of the plein-air movement, which has considerable correspondences with European painting from the end of 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
