A Tribute to the Pencil – Josip Vaništa, Davor Vrankić, Duje Medić
THE EXHIBITION BEING EXTENDED UNTIL AUGUST 9, 2015
On July 21, the Josip Račić Studio of the Modern Gallery will open an exhibition of three artists – of Josip Vaništa, Davor Vrankić and Duje Medić, entitled A Tribute to the Pencil.Three generations (Vaništa born in 1924, Vrankić in 1965 and Medić in 1986) provide three different individual approaches, as well as many similarities, within the drawing that will be presented in this exhibition. Art historian and critic Feđa Gavrilović, who devised the exhibition and wrote the catalogue, says: “So we will connect Josip Vaništa with minimalism that cancels out form, with a certain geometrical strictness with which he constructs spaces, objects and faces, to reduce them to his own outlines, the shadows of the substantial”.
As for the drawings of Davor Vrankić, which are far removed from Vaništa’s minimalist poetics, the author points out the “richness of the different textures in the surreal scenes of interiors, the Arcimboldo style figures composed of various objects and materials or still life”. The youngest among them, Duje Medić, blows up everyday motifs from his studio, bringing out their forms and textures, creating worlds that are like microscopically enlarged abstractions.
The exhibition A Tribute to the Pencil can be viewed until August 2, 2015
