Modern Gallery in Museum Night, 2017
On Friday, January 27, 2017, the Modern Gallery will be open to visitors from 11 am to 5 pm, and then from 6 pm to 1 in the morning, marking the cultural event Museum Night, entry into the Gallery will be free of charge. Visitors will be greeted in the magnificent Historicist Vranyczany Palace by Zagreb secondary school pupils, acting as museum guides (a concept that grew out of the MG project Ten Schools – Ten Artists, devised 12 years ago by MG curator Ivana Rončević Elezović), who will interpret the permanent exhibition – Croatian Fine Arts of the 19th to 21st century – in which there are more than 750 classic works of painters and sculptors, medallists and new media artists, telling of the peak performances in the Croatian visual arts since the 19th century – from modern classics like the painters Vlaho Bukovac, Mato Celestin Medović, Miroslav Kraljević and Josip Račić, the sculptors Ivan Meštrović, Frano Kršinić and Branislav Dešković, to contemporary masters of the brush, chisel and new media.
On sale there will be an ample selection of souvenirs, catalogues and monographs from the Gallery shop, at reduced prices; especially for this occasion, there will be a 50% reduction on a certain number of monographs by art historian and critic Igor Zidić about the painter Ivo Dulčić published in 2016 to mark the centenary of the artist’s birth by the Modern Gallery, the Diocese of Požega and Matica Hrvatska.
