Two Paintings by Otto Antonini in the Holdings of the National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb

Between 12th and 19th November at the Josip Račić Studio, the National Museum of Modern Art is presenting the Two Paintings by Otto Antonini in the Holdings of the National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb exhibition. Although he was a renowned illustrator and graphic designer whose works were published in the famous weekly Svijet (1926-1932), Otto Antonini produced paintings as well, two of which – namely, the Outside the Siena Cathedral oil on canvas from 1913 and A Portrait of a Girl pastel on wood from 1935 – are in the holdings of the National Museum of Modern Art.

Authored by Ivana Rončević Elezović, senior curator at the National Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition interprets and positions the said two works from the holdings of the National Museum of Modern Art in the context of Antonini’s legacy of paintings. The paintings from the holdings of the National Museum of Modern Art are presented alongside Antonini’s works from the holdings of the Zagreb City Museum and private collections, and are accompanied by photographs from the private album of the Antonini family. The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue with a foreword by the author of the exhibition and a summary in English.
