Šohaj (donations/collections)

At the exhibition Šohaj (donations/collections) that the Modern Gallery is mounting on the grand first floor of the Vranyczany Palace from October 3 to November 5, 2017, as a mark of gratitude for the valuable donations, the Zagreb arts public will have the opportunity to become familiarised with the great work of the painting oeuvre of Slavko Šohaj the silvery gentleman as he is described by the distinguished art historian and critic Igor Zidić, who for this occasion has chosen a hundred of the artist’s works created from the early 1930s to the 1990s. They comprise oil paintings, studies, drawings and prints, mostly from the donation of the artist’s widow, Heda Šohaj, of 2016, as well as from earlier donations of the artist to the Modern Gallery in 1999 and 2000, a few from the older holdings of the MG and some works from other museum-gallery institutions, collections and individual private owners. The exhibition, which is aimed at rounding off the idea of the painter and his role in Croatian modern art, is accompanied by a richly illustrated catalogue with a preface by Igor Zidić.
