Tomo Gusić, “Grad”

On Tuesday, November 6, the exhibition of Dubrovnik painter Tomo Gusić, Grad, is opened in the Josip Račić Studio of the Modern Gallery. Devised by Zdenko Tonković, the exhibition shows some twenty of the artist’s oil paintings created between 2010 and 2018, and is accompanied by a catalogue with a foreword by the creator of the exhibition.

The works of Tomo Gusić in the Josip Račić Studio of the Modern Gallery will be on view up to November 20, 2018.

For Tomo Gusić, Dubrovnik was for a painter a destined necessity. He grew up and lived here the whole of his life, with the exception of the time of his work in the Academy it was inevitable that this setting was to be his horizon and inspiration. In his maturation, in his intellectual range, in his visual expression, finally, one would say that Gusić’s obsession was of the same quality as that of Stančić with Varaždin, of Vidović with Split. Visually too there are contacts between the painters: the geometrically treated light of Stančić and the amorphous surfaces of Vidović’s twilights.
